The complex that houses the Saxon State Parliament at Bernhard-von-Lindenau-Platz 1 in Dresden has now been in use for 30 years. With this in mind, the Free State of Saxony has elected to not only refurbish it and upgrade its technical systems, but also extend it due to a lack of space within existing buildings. Built between 1928 and 1931, the older sections of the complex are subject to preservation orders and were first refurbished in the period between 1991 and 1997. This coincided with the addition of the Elbe-side wing, which includes the parliamentary debating chamber and was itself placed under a preservation order in 2023. The older sections of the complex are primarily used as offices, meeting rooms and a canteen for the parliamentary parties and administrative staff attached to the State Parliament. An exhibition space and the debating chamber are just two of the impressive spaces housed within the striking Elbe-side wing, which represents the publicly accessible heart of the State Parliament.
Kaiser Baucontrol’s Dresden office is supporting SIB Dresden – the Dresden branch of the Saxon Real Estate and Construction Management Agency – by providing project steering services (Projektsteuerung) during both the planning phase and construction phases. KBC has also been commissioned to develop a relocation concept for the State Parliament, with partial relocation required on multiple occasions over the course of the phased construction project.
