The project involved the construction of four office buildings and a central multi-storey car park on behalf of the Deutsche Post DHL Group at its Schkeuditz site. DHL initiated the project in order to bring together various units that were previously spread around the Halle-Leipzig air hub. The buildings take their names from their respective use: NetOpsEU, Customs, Shared Service Building (Aerologic) and Multi-Storey Car Park.
The construction phase lasted around 2 years, with a total of approx. 75 million euros invested. The project led to the creation of approx. 20,000 m² of usable area, with the new buildings primarily housing offices and meeting rooms for freight pilots. The Customs building handles all of the customs formalities that accompany DHL air freight traffic starting or ending in the EU. Two floors are taken up by accommodation for the teams that operate the DHL air freight fleet, with a fitness area and common room also created. A fully equipped commercial kitchen is used to provide fresh meals for members of staff.
The buildings were primarily constructed using prefabricated modular components supplied by Goldbeck. They are heated by a biogas-fired district heating plant that can be converted to hydrogen at a later date, with peak heating loads covered by two condensing boilers. The innovative solutions implemented include the installation of a modular 800 kWp thin-film photovoltaic (PV) façade on the south side of the multi-storey car park. Sourced from Saxon firm Avensis, the colouration and arrangement of the PV modules lend the building a highly characteristic aesthetic.
The ceremonial opening took place on 04.09.2023 in the presence of the Minister President of Saxony, the Chairman of DHL and the project developer. The project was managed by Lutz Elmar Vogel.
