Located in Berlin, the Museum für Naturkunde is Germany’s largest research institute in the field of natural history. It is home to one of the world’s largest collections in this area, its 30 million items placing it among the leading international museums of its type. The buildings that make up the museum were constructed according to plans by August Tiede.
The zone defined for the third phase of the refurbishment project comprises central sections of the museum. Once connected to other areas where refurbishment has already occurred, it will act as a useful stepping stone in the overall refurbishment of the Museum für Naturkunde. The zone comprises the following sections:
Villa – Crosswise Wing (West) – Central Block (West) – Pavilion (new-build) – West Wing
The Museum für Naturkunde is a legally independent foundation operated by the federal state of Berlin and funded by the German federal government and the community of federal states as part of a national subsidisation programme. Funding is provided through the federal state of Berlin’s Office of Science and Research.
