SLUB library, Dresden – refurbishment and modification

The SLUB performs the dual role of university library and repository for publications about or published in Saxony. Its main Dresden site is located on the TU Dresden university campus and ranks among the most intensively used public buildings in the Free State of Saxony. It consistently welcomes around 1.5 million visitors through its doors each year.

Comprising a total area of over 40,000 m², the main SLUB building was built in 1999-2002 and houses around 1,000 reading desks (around 200 of which are in the main auditorium) as well as offices and a variety of special collections. It holds over five million volumes, and is the German Research Foundation’s specialist archive for the subject area “Contemporary Art since 1945”.

Two sections of the north wing of the main building are of particular note: The Zimelienzimmer – which forms part of the SLUB Book Museum – and the Klemperer-Saal. Located on the first floor, the latter is used for lectures as well as a variety of other purposes including concerts, film screenings, receptions, readings and dance events.

KBC is responsible for services required in connection with the creation of a relocation and logistics concept for the refurbishment and modification of the SLUB.
